Happy Birthday, Nephew

Bethany and I drove all the way to San Antonio to see my brother and his wife this past weekend. I mean, we always enjoy seeing them both, but this was definitely a special occasion. Their son, Landen Allan Peterson, was born last Tuesday, November 29, 2011. This is my first nephew and I was incredibly excited to meet the little guy. We left Little Rock at 5:45 PM after work and made it to San Antonio at 3AM. I was nervous the entire week of falling asleep at the wheel, but I guess my excitement (and Joe Rogan Podcasts) kept me awake for the entire drive. Bethany slept. That’s my girl.

I’ve seen a lot of babies in my lifetime. I’ve taken pictures of a lot of babies. But meeting Landen and getting the chance to take his picture is something I will always cherish. He made the cutest little faces and noises. He peed on my brother. He was everything I could have hoped to have in a nephew. I wish they didn’t live so far away, but that just means every visit will be all the more special. And all the more reason to take more pictures.

World, meet my nephew, Landen.

Mr. Luke C.

Taking pictures of children is kind of like taking pictures of a band at a concert. They will always be moving around and you have to use extremely quick reflexes to get the shot you want. Also, you never know if they’re going to like having a camera in their face. Luckily, most kids won’t throw bottles of water or sling bodily fluids at you. And no, having a rock star throw water or spit at you is not as fun as it sounds. But that’s an entirely different story.

Anyways…

Luke was quite the breeze to work with. Everytime I would show him what to do, he would mimic my movement and once I put the camera to my eye, he went back to doing whatever he wanted. I’m guessing he thought we were playing the shadow game. We took pictures all around his neighborhood and with winter being in the air, I wanted these to look different than my normal children’s pictures. The overcast clouds gave the pictures a sort of gloomy, fall look. If J.Crew for Boys is looking for models, I think I’ve got the perfect candidate.

Everyone, meet Luke.

Christmas 2011 – Boston

There’s something about Christmas that is incredibly special to me. I’m not sure if it’s the fact I still look at Christmas through the eyes of a child or if it’s just what someone put in my egg nog. It could be a little bit of both. The little things still get to me. I still believe the Christmas miracles we see in the movies are possible to obtain. Once again, you might want to check my Egg Nog.

This past weekend, I was supposed to do The Bowie’s annual Christmas photos. (You can see theirs from 2009 here.) We had planned on going to Motley’s Christmas Tree Farm (Girls, Girls, Girls = Ho! Ho! Ho! wait….bad idea), but with the rain, we decided to postpone that idea and just take photos of Boston. When life gives you eggs, you make egg nog. I’m really hung up on this egg nog thing, aren’t I? We plan on trying the tree farm in a couple of weeks with the entire Bowie clan. But for now, I present to you Mr. Boston.
